Today, I had the extraordinary privilege of a private visit to Domaine Chanson in Beaune, one of Burgundy’s oldest and most historic wine estates. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this was not just a tour—it was a deep dive into centuries of heritage, craftsmanship, and fine wine.

Our experience began in the bastion, the ancient vaulted cellar that has stood since the 15th century. This impressive tower was originally part of Beaune’s fortifications and was acquired by the estate’s predecessor family just after the Revolution. Over time, the Chanson family extended it to accommodate wine aging, and today it still houses barrels in its thick stone walls. Walking through the different architectural layers of the bastion, I could feel the weight of history in every corner, a vivid reminder of the long and storied evolution of Burgundy wine culture.

Next, we moved into the historic home built in 1900, where the charm and elegance of the past are beautifully preserved. The tasting room felt like stepping into another era, with its warm, inviting atmosphere and sweeping views over the garden. Our visit concluded with a tasting of six of Domaine Chanson’s finest wines. Each wine showcased a deep connection to the region’s terroir and history. Founded in 1750 by Simon Véry, Domaine Chanson is one of the oldest wine houses in Burgundy, with a lineage that spans nearly three centuries and ten generations. In the 19th century, the estate came into the hands of the Chanson family, who lent their name to this renowned négociant. Since 1999, the estate has been part of the Bollinger family portfolio, further enhancing its global reach and commitment to quality.
